Veramonte Primus The Blend 2010
Wine EnthusiastThis Cabernet-led blend of four grapes opens with slightly medicinal, granular aromas of latex and iodine, but with time earthy black-fruit scents take over. Primus delivers a dense, meaty mouthfeel and saturated, almost heavy flavors of ripe blackberry, blueberry and chocolate. Yes, it's a touch plodding but for a big, bold wine it gets things right. Drink through 2016.
Wine AdvocateThe 2010 Primus The Blend is 39% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Carmenere, 23% Syrah and 10% Merlot raised for fourteen months in French oak, 25% new. It has a well-defined bouquet with blackberry, blueberry and subtle floral notes imparted by the Syrah. The palate is medium-bodied with chewy tannins. It is nicely balanced, but somehow this blend of varieties means that the wine loses direction and focus, not quite knowing what it wants to be. It is enjoyable, but I would reconsider the blend of "The Blend." Drink now-2017.
