Bodegas Mauro Vendimia Seleccionada 2002
|Region||Spain, Castilla y Leon|
Wine AdvocateThe 2002 Vendimia Seleccionada, from a less exciting vintage, is nonetheless a superior effort. It is black purple in color with expressive aromatics and layers of blue and black fruits. However, it is more forward than its less expensive sibling as well as less opulent. Give it 3-4 years in the cellar and drink it over the following 6-8 years.
Wine SpectatorThis powerful, modern red is rich and dense, with currant, blueberry compote, chocolate, tobacco and spice flavors. Has tannins, extraction and alcohol in spades, but maintains balance and harmony. Best after 2007. 2,000 cases made.
Wine EnthusiastStarts with aromas of beef jerky, licorice and berry syrup. It's a brawny, dark wine with jammy blackberry flavors along with chocolate cake and thick, grabbing tannins. Finishes sweet and syrupy, with heavy saturation and big tannins. Not in perfect balance and by no means a great wine from Mauro. But it's still good for an off year.
