A deep mahogany brown, with olive hues indicates considerable years of maturation. The bouquet is a combination of malt and honey, with hints of raisins and the unmistakable scent of tea leaves, which is the hallmark of Rutherglen tokay. There is a real lusciousness and weight on the palate with full, mellow honeyed flavours, lingering complex rancio characters and drying tannins on the finish to balance the sweetness and prevent it from cloying. Blended for optimum flavour and balance prior to bottling, this wine will not improve with further cellaring and should ideally be enjoyed soon after opening. Serving Suggestions: This wine may be enjoyed with coffee and petit fours or rich almond butter biscuits. However, to fully appreciate the rich complexity of this rare wine, we recommend enjoying it on its own.

Wine AdvocateThe more ancient soleras (usually the base wine is well over 60 years of age) are bottled under the “Rare caption, and often flirt with perfection. The non-vintage Rare Tokay Isabella is slightly less sweet (293 grams of residual sugar per liter) with a lighter amber color than the Muscat Merchant Prince. Nevertheless, it possesses superb intensity as well as palate presence with hints of honeysuckle, raisins, black tea, marmalade, and toffee. This is an extraordinary beverage that must be tasted to be believed.

Wine SpectatorSweet, unctuous and delicious, flavors centering on stewed prunes with layers of sweet exotic spice notes and hints of cherry, raspberry and caramel lingering on the long, heady finish. Drink now. 40 cases imported.
