Dona Maria Amantis Reserva Red 2015
Wine AdvocateThe 2015 Reserva Amantis is a roughly equal blend of Syrah, Touriga Nacional, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Sauvignon aged for 12 months in 30% new oak (mostly French, the rest American). It comes in at 14.5% alcohol. Wonderfully graceful, this starts by caressing the palate with velvet. The mid-palate finesse makes it elegant but nowhere near thin. In the background, the grape medley provides intriguing nuances from beef to herbs. As a nice little cherry on top, there is fine structure here as well. There's a real backbone, but with ripe tannins that are never too hard. It is impeccably balanced. It should hold well for at least another decade in the cellar, maybe more. This is a super value, a fine follow-up to the 2013, perhaps better. It is certainly as good as or better than any Amantis Reserva yet.
Wine SpectatorA fresh, plump red, medium- to full-bodied, packed with raspberry compote, graphite and sweet spice flavors. Hints of mocha, olive and herb linger on the moderately tannic finish. Touriga Nacional, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. Drink now through 2023. 4,500 cases made.
