Wine SpectatorThis compact red slowly opens to reveal dense, layered flavors of plum sauce, fig paste, game and iron. Fresh, with integrated tannins and a long, mocha- and spice-tinged finish. Decant or set down for the short term. Carmenère and Cabernet Sauvignon. Drink now through 2014. 1,742 cases made.
Wine AdvocateThe 2008 Neyen is a blend of 80% Carmenere and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon aged for fourteen months in 70% new French oak. It is smooth and sensual on the nose thanks to that creamy oak, although it is in harmony with the voluptuous fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with a dense, tobacco-tinged entry: layers of black fruit with a dry, grainy, graphite finish that is stern and serious. This is nicely composed and should accompany food with style. Personally, I would afford this wine another year in bottle. Drink 2013-2019.
