Cryptic Red 2012
Our #10 Red Wine from our May 21, 2016 "Big Taste" of The Vineyard Wine Tasting Event.
Cryptic features a spicy frame wrapped by heady aromas and flavors of blackberry jam, fresh red plum, black licorice and mocha. Rich and juicy, with plush tannins, the finish keeps on giving long after the last sip. Cryptic's subtle toasty notes and ripe fruit flavors pair well with roasted or grilled meats, hearty pasta dishes or wood-fired pizza.
Wine AdvocateThe 2012 Cryptic Proprietary Red was designed to compete with the bistro-styled, fleshy, well-crafted Apothic Proprietary Red produced by Gallo. There are 25,000 cases of this kitchen sink blend that no doubt includes some Zinfandel, Rhône Ranger varietals, and who knows what else? The bottom line is that it is a luscious, medium-bodied, exuberantly fruity, dry red with plenty of character as well as Provençal herbs, pepper, meat, black cherries and blackcurrants. Drink it over the next year with pizza, hamburgers, etc. It is an excellent choice for bistros and brassières.
