Passagem Wines Reserve Red 2011
Wine SpectatorA sumptuous and luscious red, with a briary character to the rich dark and red fruit flavors, layered with savory and minerally notes. Medium-grained tannins emerge on the supple finish, accented by cream and cocoa powder details. Drink now through 2020. 750 cases made.
Wine AdvocateThe 2011 Reserva Passagem is a blend of 40% Touriga Nacional and 45% Touriga Franca with 15% Tinta Cao, aged in 100% new French oak for 18 months. It comes in at 14.5% alcohol. This is a bit too oaky at the moment, but that should improve as it settles in and settles down. In the meanwhile, it shows beautiful balance with controlled tannins and a juicy, flavorful finish. Notwithstanding my oak comments, this also shows fine purity and I think it will absorb much of the oak. This could be the best Passagem yet, combining elegance and flavor. I liked the silkier texture it developed as it aired, too. There were 10,000 bottles produced. Drink now-2024.
