Michele Chiarlo

Sweet, rich black cherry and currant fruit flavors and aromas dominate this refined yet concentrated wine, with notes of violets, pepper, lead pencil and tar supported by a firm acidic core and fine, polished tannins.

Wine Enthusiast

An interesting nose of raspberry truffle, vanilla, road tar and wax. On the palate the flavors proved slightly less intense, but stayed the course, and the wine showed none of the hollow middle of some 2003 Barolos. The finish was medium long. A wine to cellar for a few years, and a fine effort.

Score: 93. December 22, 2011.

Wine Spectator

Very pretty aromas of fresh flowers, fruit and lemon follow through to a full-bodied palate, with soft, silky tannins and a long finish. A bit tight now. Needs time. Best after 2009. 1,450 cases made.

Score: 90. —James Suckling, October 15, 2007.

Wine Advocate

The 2003 Barolo Cerequio presents a distinctly darker profile than the Cannubi, with suggestions of menthol, tar and smoke that complement its ripe fruit along with a touch more oak. It shows lovely balance in a fairly big style for a wine from this site. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2018.

Score: 90. —Antonio Galloni, October 2007.
