Hewitt Vineyard
With intense layers of dark fruit, bittersweet chocolate, black licorice, clove spice, mineral and cedar, this is one of Napa Valley's most voluptuous Cabernet Sauvignons. The palate is rich and complex, packed with sweet black cherry, plum and blackberry character that tones down the muscular entry. Malted cocoa powder tannins (classic Rutherford Dust) frame the expansive flavors, enhancing the wine's plush, opulent texture. The elegant, fruit-imbued finish lingers with espresso, toffee and nutmeg. Pair this wine with rich, robust meals, like seared beef tenderloin with shiitake mushroom sauce.

Intense and full-blown, rich and concentrated, with a rustic, earthy edge to the dried currant, sage and underbrush notes. The depth and dimension of the flavors are cloaked in chewy tannins, requiring time to unfold. Best from 2010 through 2016.

Wine Advocate
Hewitt's 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon is a large-scaled, structured effort displaying plenty of dusty, earthy notes intermixed with chocolate, licorice, spice box, black currant, and new oak smells. With an opaque purple color as well as terrific depth and intensity, this seriously-endowed 2006 will require some cellaring. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2035.

Petty tannic now, which accentuates the dryness, creating an austere palate impression. So it's one for the cellar, but will it age? Yes. It's dramatically rich in blackberries, black currants and blueberries, with a voluptuous edge of dark chocolate. Best 2011-2015.

Sustainably Grown
Sustainable practices incorporate organic standards and may exceed them and include ecologically and socially sound business practices such as fair pay for farm workers and energy conservation.
Screw Cap
Wines sealed with a screw cap as opposed to a cork, which experts report protects and preserves wine more effectively than does a cork, while also eliminating the possibility of cork taint.
No Sulfites
All wines naturally contain some sulfites, however wines that contain less than 10 parts per million sulfites are not required to include "Contains Sulfites" on their labels.

I still believe it is the simplest way to rate a wine, with its origins from grade school in the United States. A wine that I rate 90 points or more is outstanding (A), and worth buying. If I rate a wine 95 points or more (A+), it is a must buy.
